Jewish Heritage in Chmielnik

Located at the crossing of the Staszów – Jędrzejów and Kielce – Tarnów roads, Chmielnik has a synagogue and two Jewish cemeteries: they testify to the wealth and importance of the former Jewish community of Chmielnik.

Kadzielnia Reserve

Geological attractiveness of Kielce is best proved by the presence of four inanimate nature reserves on the city’s territory. Very well-known is the Kadzielnia that contains an inselberg known as the Rock of Geologists located in the central part of the former open-pit quarry.

Karczówka

Karczówka is a picturesque hill located in the western part of the city of Kielce and topped with a beautiful post-Bernardine monastery founded by the Bishop Marcin Szyszkowski and dating back to the 17th century.

Kielce

The earliest records about its trading activities date back to 1084 – it"s also the date of the construction of St Adalbert"s church. At the turn of the 11th century, Kielce and the Łysa Góra estate were already in hands of the Cracovian bishops. Kielce received its city rights in 1295, although some sources mention the year 1360 and bishop Bodzanta.

Kielce Historical Museum

Opened in October 2006, the Kielce Historical Museum is one of the youngest cultural institutions of the Świętokrzyski region. It features a permanent exhibition entitled Kielce Through Centuries.

Landscape Parks

The Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is exceptionally rich in protected areas. Apart from the Świętokrzyski National Park, there are as many as eight Landscape Parks.

    Laszczyk Family Manor House

    Built on the southern slope of the Castle Hill (18thc.), it"s the only timber (larch wood) manor in Kielce. Covered with shingle roof and entered through a charming portico with columns, the Laszczyk family manor houses the head office of the Open-Air Museum of the Kielce Village and temporary exhibitions.

    Mt Miedzianka – Nature Reserve

    The elongated massif of Mt Miedzianka has been placed under protection. It constitutes the north-westernmost located elevation of the Ch ęciny range of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The plateau has three summits that are connected by a picturesque rocky ridge.

    Muzeum Geologiczne w Kielcach

    The museum was founded in 1963 as a fixed part of PIG"s branch in Świętokrzyskie, first as an archive and since 1992 as a museum open for visitors.

    Nowa Słupia

    The area of the present Nowa Słupia was visited already in the 2nd c. BC. by pilgrims aimed to head for the summit of Bald Mountain or merchants interested in buying iron. Every year in August an archeological festival known as Dymarki Świetokrzyskie is organized in Nowa Słupia in order to demonstrate visitors the ancient ways of smelting iron ore.
